Roadtrip 2014: Vancouver - Yakima - Boise - Provo - Flagstaff - Tucson - Palm Springs - Paso Robles - Sacramento - Eureka - Bandon - Seaside - Vancouver

Day - 27 Tucson

Whaaaa? Clouds in Tucson?

Our friend Chuck in Bisbee invited us to join him at this exhibit at the Tuscon Desert Art Gallery by his friend Charlie Winter. Charlie spent 2 years photographing the Dine people at Canyon de Chelly - we met Charlie and yaked at length about the work and how he came to create it. The very best work is in inexplicably in the 2 back rooms - insightful B&W pieces that examine the daily life activities of the Dine.

In the next gallery over artist Michael Holcome has an incredible show of his work. No it's not photography at all! Entirely computer generated. Regardless - it is a visual feast.

Later in the afternoon we take a little walking tour of a downtown historic Tuscon neighbourhood. Much cooler today - great for walking!

A grand ol' tradition in Australia, but this is the first time we've seen it in the US - a drive-thru liquor store.

We were very, very lucky to spot this prototype US Army MTNU-76C Portable Tunnel Unit being stealthily moved through town. Costing $1.3 billion each, the PTU can be driven up to a mountain, thus enabling troops to pour through the formerly impassable terrain, rendering even the staunchest defences defenceless. Alternatively, the Unit can be deployed to permit a seamless retreat, and then quickly withdrawn, so the enemy cannot follow. Note the Arctic White camouflage pattern on this model - we think this is a precursor for the annexation of Canada. The technology is considered "impossible", leading to speculation that it is actually derived from the Roswell Discovery.

On a more heavenly note ...... we return to our walking tour.

The World-Famous Prickliest Sidewalk in the World.

A truly eggstravagent mural.

In case the locals were wondering where all the stolen bikes were going ......

The sad remains of the Original Prototype R2D1. The R2D1 prototype was abandoned in favour of the improved R2D2 unit, which came equipped with a much cuter soundtrack.

The Original Getaway Vehicle used in the Great Streetcar Robbery.

Emma Brown Sock posed for this portrait.

The newest in sport surface design - the levitating court.

Urban picnic.

Last light flight - downtown Tuscon.

Ode to Brian Howell.
